There are three main requirements that determine Section 8 eligibility in the state of Alabama.

The Alabama Section 8 eligibility housing requirements are available on the Section 8 housing website. To qualify for low income housing in AL, an applicant is required to meet the standards for: area of residence, gross family income and nationality. An applicant’s gross family income cannot exceed 50 percent of the country’s main median income or they will not qualify for Section 8 housing.

Alabama Section 8 eligibility does vary depending on the applicant’s area of residence. In certain areas of residence, it is much easier to qualify for low income housing due to how affluent that county is. As a result, each county determines its own Section 8 eligibility rules for the Section 8 housing program. Section 8 eligibility is also affected by the number of people in a household. For each additional person that is living in a household, the dollar amounts awarded will also increase.
